Internal Dialog and Illusion

Some of the garden is already in but it is too wet to even get in it much less plant the rest. Presently locked in mortal combat with slugs that are helping themselves to rhubarb and potatoes.

I’m constantly occupied with the question of why there is something rather than nothing. There should be nothing.

But then we must question everything once we become aware of the fickleness of our reality. I was reading about internal dialog and the fact that some people don’t engage in it at all….my own is a running stream-of-consciousness soliloquy that never shuts up. Anyway, I ran across an article that covered the illusion behind “The Dress” which is a photo of a black and blue dress that some people see as gold and white.

When you realize that two people can look at the same photo and see two radically different dresses, the question arises – who sees the real colors? Then we must concede that perhaps there is no absolute reality when we consider truly abstract concepts rather than the wavelength of light bouncing off a dress. The article presented multiple visual illusions to prove the point that what we “think” we see is often fiction. How much more ethereal must be our notions of justice, love, freedom, and God? We all talk of these concepts as though there is a common definition, but we may all be dealing with radically different “realities.”
