Consciousness….when did it begin?

When science reigns supreme and reason becomes our deity, what will become of our old myths? Will we banish all the old Gods and pray to reason, that coldest and most austere Goddess?

She is marble and ice, analytics and cyphers, unforgiving, unrelenting, and uncaring. Her prophecies hold no promise of eternity, no streets of gold, no purpose and no meaning. Her level gaze is stoic, detached, certain.

She knows the destiny of man without a doubt. It is written on the walls of time in letters as big as the stars. When the last man, woman, and child sit by a fire in a cave, whose name will they etch in smoke on the walls? Whose spirit will they call? To whom will they pray? God will not be dead in that last hour because that last myth is the last hope of the last man.
